An art project inspired by St Michael’s and All Angels Church, an English Heritage Grade II* listed building in Brampton Abbotts, a settlement two miles north of Ross-on-Wye, is returning to the Church for a special display.
Whispering Across Centuries is an art project Inspired by the wealth of history and the stories the church could tell, from its Norman roots in the 11th century to its current closed status and regeneration project.
During 2018, organisers Darren Williams and John Sherahilo, artists and residents of Brampton Abbotts invited a number of individuals and groups to visit the church to produce a personal artistic response to the church. The work which resulted is varied, thought-provoking and well worth seeing.
The project was first exhibited at Hereford Cathedral and then at St Mary’s Church, Ross, but it will be on show for one day only at Brampton Abbotts Church itself on Saturday, July 6th, which will be a fitting closure to the project.
One of the exhibits is a child’s dress which has been embroidered with the 408 names in the baptism register at Brampton Abbott’s Church. The photograph next to it in the display features the artist’s granddaughter wearing the dress, illustrating the link from one generation to the next and the links to the church’s history
Other exhibits include the church created from bread, surrounded by paper sculptures of other churches which are in danger of closing for good. The Daily Bread is the name of the project which has brought new life to Brampton Abbotts.
The exhibition is open on Saturday, July 6th from 10am - 4pm.
