A Gloucester man who tried to rob a couple at knifepoint as they walked home after a wedding in Ross has been jailed for two years.
The day after the robbery bid, Ryan Lawrence, 20, flagged down the police and threatened to damage their car if they did not arrest him.
Prosecutor Julian Kesner told Gloucester Crown Court that on June 15th this year Jennifer Powell, and her partner David Stanton, had been to a wedding in Ross.
They caught a bus back to Gloucester and were walking home after 11pm when Lawrence jumped out in front of them from behind some trees.
"He had a black handled kitchen knife with a 7" blade in his hand," Mr Kesner said.
"He said:?'Give me what you've got.' He moved towards Mr Stanton saying 'One of you is going to get this.'"
But the couple, although frightened, reacted 'remarkably coolly' towards the knifeman, said Mr Kesner. Powell got out her mobile phone and started ringing the police. When the police attended they found the knife but not Lawrence.
Mr Kesner added:?"The next day he flagged down a police car and said he would smash the window if he was not arrested. He then told the police what he had done the night before."
Lawrence, 20, of Gloucester, admitted attempted robbery and was sent to a young offenders institution for two years.
