Award Winning Dancer and Choreographer, Sonia Sabri to perform her latest work at the Llanwarne Village Hall

Award winning dancer and choreographer, Sonia Sabri is internationally renowned for taking an innovative approach to the Indian classical dance form of Kathak. Her new production Parallels draws elements from Urban culture and Sufi philosophy of the heart and soul, discovering and creating new facets and possibilities in this rich art form.

 

In this vivid, fiery and uplifting two-part programme to be performed on the 7th of February at 7.30pm, Sonia will reveal both cutting-edge contemporary and intimate classical Kathak dance accompanied by live music and promises to showcase the dramatic range of her work.

The first part comprises of three fresh contemporary Kathak solos in an urban setting. Choreography by the pioneering Shobana Jayasingh and Lisa Tirun takes Kathak to new places. Sonia then returns to her classical Kathak roots: precise footwork, rapid turns, complex rhythms, intricate gestures and playful improvisation between dancer and musicians, build to a heart pounding rhythmic crescendo. She is accompanied by a virtuoso live musical line-up of sitar, vocals and the world-renowned Ustad Sarvar Sabri on the tabla.
