A free family foodie day out in the Forest of Dean will take place on Sunday, May 20th, from 11am-5pm.
Taurus Crafts’ ‘May Market’ showcases the best of local food and drink from the region and adds a little more to create a great atmosphere for all visitors.
Alongside the market stalls, and keeping the crowds entertained, will be live music from Banshee ceilidh band. This talented three piece have been entertaining crowds for years and bring a wealth of experience in traditional folk and contemporary versions using fiddle, guitars, Irish bouzouki, mandolin, flute, button accordion, double bass, banjo, percussion and vocals.
Insects are definitely on the menu, as kids can get hands on cooking on an open fire with ‘Barney the infamous chef’, making Bug Bread using insects that you can actually eat. The free activity for creative kids doesn’t stop there, with vegetable sculpture making on offer throughout the day too.
“The joy of cooking over fire is in our DNA.” said Barney, owner of Infamous Catering. “Come and have a go at our bug-bread workshop, it’s for the whole family, so parents can enjoy snacking on an insect or two as well.”
“I am so looking forward to this year’s food market at Taurus Crafts. We are going to be having some great fun during the day cooking our own twisty-bread over open fire in a beautiful copper fire pit, kindly on loan from Millend Mitcheldean.
“This is no ordinary bread making, oh no! Because we are going to make our bread full of real life bugs! And what’s more you can still eat it and it tastes amazing, and it’s free!”
Local organic coffee specialist Peter James will be talking about his coffee roasting and sourcing experience and sharing his knowledge in a ‘tasting talk’ about teas and coffee. Then find out the secrets behind Isabel’s Bakehouse award winning beetroot pie when she does a live cooking demonstration.
Traders at the market include: Wigmore’s Bakery, Isabel’s Bakehouse, Miniyaki’s Japanese Soul Food, Haven Distillery Gin, Kitchen Flowers preserves, McCrindle’s Cider & Perry, Parva Spices & Sauces, Bespoke Brewery, Chris’s Fresh Fruit & Veg, Smart’s Cheese, and Mad Mammas Mexican meals. More to be announced.
