One of the first of the celebrity gardeners, Geoff Hamilton, was well-known for his appearances on Gardeners’ World. Presenting the show from his garden at Barnsdale, his garden designs and experiments with plants, themes and ideas inspired the nation to get outside and have a go. He earned the reputation of being the ‘People’s Gardener’.

Geoff was a firm believer and pioneer in organic gardening and the gardens at Barnsdale remain an outstanding example of these organic principles. He died after suffering a heart attack on a charity bike ride near Merthyr Tydfil, Wales in August 1996.

His garden at Barnsdale, consisting of 38 themed gardens over eight acres (32,000 m2), remains open to the public and is run by his son, Nick Hamilton, who is also an organic gardener and writer.

Ross Horticultural Society have invited Nick Hamilton to present their annual talk at the Larruperz Centre on September 15th.

The former Chairman of Ross Horticultural Society, Michael Leach, has been invited to give the vote of thanks at the meeting as he knew Geoff Hamilton and visited Barnsdale many times.

There are still tickets available for this popular event, which starts at 7.30pm. Members £7 & Non-Members £8, for more information telephone Margaret Willis on 01989 564967.
