GOODRICH seconds played host to second placed Glangrwyney in the Marches Div 2 clash.
Invited to bat the visitors started aggressively reaching 32 without loss until the experience of Neil Price had Ben Bowker well caught by Johnny Evans for 22. The score shortly became 44 – 3 when Richard Hope brilliantly caught Tim Jones giving Price (3- 32) his third wicket in quick succession. The wickets continued to fall.
The bowlers were well supported by the fielders, with Johnny Evans and Norman Dunford taking good catches. Only sensible batting by Glangrwyney's Nick Pooler (42) enabled the visitors to eventually reach 134 all out in the final over of the innings. For Goodrich all the bowlers performed well.
Goodrich started their reply confidently despite the early loss of Mark Evans. John Pickering (16) was then caught behind with the score on 27 and this shortly became 27 –3 when Rutsch was dismissed. With the score on 68 Johnny Evans (11) was dismissed and this brought a flurry of wickets with Goodrich slipping to 81 – 6. Ward was bowled by a great ball from Joe Bowker for 36.
The batsmen, using their vast experience, continued to keep the score board moving and as the target slowly approached the pressure shifted to the bowlers who became increasing desperate with their appealing.
With eight overs remaining, Beddard struck the winning boundary giving Goodrich a well-deserved fourwicket win. Both 'Man of the Match' Hope and Beddard remained not out on 26 each, in an undefeated 7th wicket partnership of 56.
