A Red Oak tree which becomes a blaze of colour in the late autumn, around about the time of the annual Remembrance Day services and parades, has been planted near to the Ross Bandstand.

The Mayor of Ross-on-Wye, Councillor Harry Bramer purchased the tree, a Querus Rubure, as a symbol for the Town Council in the 100th year since the end of World War I.

Cllr Bramer told the Ross Gazette: “I have been delighted to be Mayor in the year commemorating the 100 years since the signing of the Armistice which brought about the end of WWI. This tree, being a Red Oak, will provide a visual reminder for future generations so that those who died during WWI will never be forgotten.”

The Mayor was accompanied by his Consort, Ms Marie Ward and Alan, the Amenities Manager and Dan, employees of Ross Town Council who prepared the ground and planted the tree.
