Representatives of Ross-on-Wye Lions group and the Ross Conservative Club visited the Strensham base of the Air Ambulance to had over a cheque last week.

The Chairman of Ross Conservative Club, Roger Jones, has more reason than most to support the Air ambulance. In November 2001 he was involved in a serious motorcycle accident where the ambulance came to his rescue and whisked him off to Gloucester Royal.

As R J Entertainment he offered to put on a sing along and supper night for the Ross Lions, provided it was in aid of the Air Ambulance.

Nick Dale from Ross Lions is also a helicopter pilot and keen supporter of this charity. He told the Ross Gazette: “It was great to meet the team at their Strensham base. They explained the Air Ambulance is totally charity-funded, with the average cost of £2500 for each mission, they average 2000 missions per year.

90 per cent of the region is within reach within eight minutes by air and this allows medics to reach patients within the critical ‘golden hour’. See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now
