The grand opening of a new Indian restaurant and takeaway took place on Tuesday, May 15th.

Whitchurch Spice Tandoori has opened inside the The Crown at Whitchurch public house, as part of their business.

I enjoyed a meal there over the weekend and was impressed at the quality of the food, the speedy service, and the reasonable prices.

The staff were attentive and polite, and I would describe the atmosphere as intimate and family friendly.

To start, myself and a friend enjoyed Chicken Pakora’s (£3.95) and Vegetable Samosa’s (£3.50). For mains, Chicken Khorma (£7.95) and Chicken Tikka Massala (£8.95).

We were glad that we decided to share a Pilau Rice (£3.25) and a Peshwari Nan (£2.95) as the portion sizes of both the starters and mains were enough to leave us feeling very full!

Monsieur Alom Ahmed (Masum), who is the owner of the Whitchurch Spice Tandoori, told the Ross Gazette that he is also the co-owner of The Lea Spice restaurant and takeaway, which is situated within the Crown Inn at Lea.

Masum said he has lived in the area for a few years now, previously from East London, and originally from Bangladesh.

He hopes to bring the best of Bangladeshi Cuisine to local residents, and said that business is already looking very promising!

The Whitchurch Spice Tandoori’s opening hours are Monday to Saturday 5pm - 11pm, and Sunday, 12pm - 2.30pm and 5pm - 11pm.
