Peter Hickman is one of the most influential names in local hairdressing. He founded the chain in 1957 and now has six salons throughout Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. One of these is the Ross-on-Wye based salon, which is managed by highly experienced hairdresser, Tracy Castell.
Tracy began her hairdressing career as an apprentice for Peter Hickman at the Gloucester salon before she went on to work in the Cheltenham salon. Since then her eye for detail and her very high standards of styling have ensured that her large client base continues to return time after time. Tracy has over 30 years’ experience in the industry and she will be celebrating 24 years since opening her own salon in partnership with Peter Hickman, and 14 years of the opening of the Barbershop in Ross this August. As well as celebrating their 21st anniversary next year of achieving their Investors in People Award.
Over the years Tracy has not only experienced the satisfaction of her many clients leaving the salon with wonderful hair, she has encouraged her staff to develop into confident stylists and colourists. Tracy told the Ross Gazette: “It is a hard working industry, but it is constantly evolving and it is very exciting. There is nothing more satisfying than helping someone feel good about themselves; a new style or colour can be a life-changing experience.
“We are constantly learning and we learn from each other and we always go that extra mile to please our clients.” Tracy added.
The salon is about seeing what is popular and adapting their techniques to help create them. Tracy said: “People are much more adventurous these days but whether they want something subtle or vibrant we always provide a good service and give our clients the look they want.”
The salon staff have a reputation in Ross for being great stylists who are helpful and friendly. Tracy believes that there is no point creating the most amazing hair style if it is not what the client wants. The customers’ wishes are paramount
