MEMBERS of 1002 (Ross-on-Wye) Sqn ATC enjoyed a very special day at RAF Brize norton recently. Thanks to Flt Lt Rick Seager, who is stationed at Brize Norton and is also a regular helper at the local squadron 10 cadets and three members of staff from Ross-on-Wye Squadron plus three cadets from Hereford City ATC took part in a range of activities on a fun and action packed day.
On arrival the cadets were immediately set team building activities. The first was to pass through a spider's web without touching it and then they took on a tortuous low ropes route through a stand of trees, relying on leadership and communication skills.
After this the group moved on to a high ropes activity specially designed to encourage the building of trust and team spirit within a group. After climbing a 40 foot swaying pole four team members had to position themselves on a two foot square platform. Once all were in place they had to link hands and lean out, relying on their partners for total support.
This was just one of many activities which involved balancing on high wires and jumping off 40 foot platforms and relying on fan brakes to slow their decent.
