The Brampton Abbotts Cake Club are a friendly group of ladies who meet each month to enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake, while catching up on the local gossip.
Cake Club formed around a year ago as a way for the women in the village to get to know their neighbours better. When the club started, some of the women had not lived in the area for long, while others had been there for many years.
14 women in the village make up the Cake Club, and since its formation, the group have now branched out to organise charity events. Last year, the ladies organised a barbecue to raise funds for a defibrillator to be set up in the village. They raised £350, and the defib is expected to arrive in Brampton Abbotts in the very near future.
The Cake Club’s next charity event will be held on Sunday, May 14th, between 2pm and 5pm, at Brampton Abbotts Village Hall, and the group is organising a Tea Festival in aid of the Ross Action Bus: the Ross Gazette’s charity of the year.
The Cake Club decided unanimously that the Action Bus was the charity they wanted to fundraise for, because it directly benefits so many people in the local community.
One of the Cake Club members, Ali, had the idea to organise the Tea Festival, after she attended a similar, very successful event in Cornwall.
Tickets to the Tea Festival cost £5, and all attendees will be able to enjoy a cream tea.
Brampton Abbotts Village Hall will be decorated in a vintage tea party theme, and the Cake Club are planning on dressing in 1940s and 1950s attire, and other visitors are more than welcome to do the same.
The event will also offer tea tasting, games, a treasure hunt, craft stalls, and a charity raffle. The Cake Club have also founded a community choir, and their first ever public performance will be at the Tea Festival.
The group is collecting old teapots, to use as decorations for the festival, and if anyone has an old teapot they would like to donate, or if any local businesses would like to donate a prize for the raffle, please email [email protected]
