A man from Ross-on-Wye who is appealing to local Councillors to not make excessive cuts to the bus service in Herefordshire, recently spoke to the Ross Gazette more in detail about his campaign. He said: "The campaign has been really good; generally people have been getting behind it, people are really against cutting buses.
"That’s my message to local Councillors. I’d ask them to please remember this is an issue that’s really important, and it could cost them votes during an election if they vote to cut the service."
He added: "I'd also like to re-iterate my challenge for the local Councillors to use the bus for a month, before they vote to completely implement the cuts."
Last month, on January 22nd, it was announced that the 782 bus service between Cinderford and Ross-on-Wye would be withdrawn. The last day of operation will be on Friday, February 19th. Many local residents are concerned that more services will be withdrawn over the next four years.
"I understand that Herefordshire Council are going to have to make some difficult decisions," Jordan continued, "I also understand that local councils are really pushed at the moment, however, it's about priorities; they (Herefordshire Council) are spending millions of pounds on a bypass which won't even decrease the level of traffic that much; and I think if they instead invested half, or a quarter of that money into public transport, we'd have a much better traffic system, and it would protect some of the most vulnerable in society.
"If we had a half-decent public transport system, and if the Council was willing to be a bit more imaginative and a bit more ambitious, we could have a really good inter-connected county."
