TheYew Tree Inn at Peterstow, near Ross-on-Wye has been named Herefordshire CAMRA’s Cider Pub of the Year for the first time.
This will not be a surprise to those who know their real cider, as the lease to the pub was taken on by Mike Johnson of the Ross-on-Wye Cider Company in 2014.
At the recent Award Presentation Mike said that he was ‘very honoured and proud’. He said that his aim had been to create not just a good cider pub, but a good local community pub too.
Mike and his family have been making cider at Broome Farm for as long as anyone can remember, and have picked up many awards including Champion Cider Maker at the Big Apple in 2009 and 2011, CAMRA’s Pomona Award in 2009, and more recently the Queen’s Diamond Award for Excellence in Food and Drink in 2013. They still make cider the traditional way – no water, yeast or artificial sweeteners – just juice.
Broome Farm hosts the Ross Cider Festival each year on the first weekend in September, and new for 2017 is the Yew Tree Cider Challenge and Festival, due to be held in June.
The Yew Tree even has a Cider Shop onsite, and for those wanting to stay the night, the Yew Tree even has its own caravan and campsite.
