Do any readers remember a bomb falling on the Chase Hotel during WWII. It was unexploded and the shell is in the Heritage Centre today. Any accounts, memories or photos would be helpful, in particular: did any other bombs land at the same time? What was the surmised target? Was it the Munitions Factory in Hereford or Ellison's Works at Lydbrook? Does anyone know about John Constance, who carried the bomb away from the hotel and how Mrs J Rynhart came to own it and donate it to the Heritage Centre in 1998? And finally, which shops displayed the bomb and collected money for the war effort.
If anyone can answer these questions please contact the Ross Gazette.
