LAST Saturday morning, a group of riders from The Cancer Club along with friends took part in a 30-mile cycle ride around the scenic lanes of Ross-On-Wye.

The group set out from Market House and proceeded to hold up the traffic as they streamed down the hill to a round of applause. The event was arranged by The Cancer Club to promote ‘Getting men talking’ about their cancer diagnoses.

This charity event was all made possible by a generous grant from The Card Factory Foundation. Further sponsorship was provided by Tibico Fermentary Wye Valley and Steel Wire Products Ltd who are two local businesses who kindly provided the yellow cycle shirts for the group taking part.

Originally Paul Middleton supported The Cancer Club with its website and ideas for future development, but sadly he passed away a few weeks ago and didn’t see his creation come to life.

However, Amanda his wife took part in the ride in his memory. The Cancer Club will always be grateful for Paul’s guidance and knowledge of computers to improve the reach of the club. The event was also supported by Ross Cancer Support Group, who meet on the first Tuesday of each month at Costa Coffee between 2pm and 4pm for a chat. Keith Soley, chairman of The Cancer Club said: “The group and its membership is there to support men on their cancer journey.

“The group itself are able to support men nationally from diagnosis through treatment and beyond. Its aim is to provide an outlet, a way to escape the everyday grind created by cancer, bringing some light-hearted relief and enjoyment to the lives of those living with a difficult diagnosis.
