MADAM, Our family moved to the village of Glewstone in 1971, and we have always enjoyed the company of cats. In fact my wife and I have six wonderful rescue cats all with their own special characters.
Whilst as a family we have been aware of many road traffic accidents over the years due to idiots speeding through the village ignoring the 30mph speed limit, the cats have normally been fairly safe.
You can imagine our distress when six weeks ago one of our pets returned after being missing for a few days with a broken tail and a fractured pelvis; as a result she had to have her tail amputated.
Then again last week another of our family went missing eventually, due to the vigilance of a neighbour, we found him, only to find he had also had his tail broken and on this occasion his pelvis was smashed. He is so badly hurt that the vet cannot operate on his tail for some weeks to come.
All the evidence suggests that these are not RTA's; their claws are not shattered, and there are no other injuries such as cuts or wounds. We can only conclude, with the opinion of more qualified people, that this has been a deliberate case of mindless and vicious cruelty.
We are informing the authorities, but if anyone has further information it would be welcomed.
Andrew Godfrey, Glewstone
