Hereford College of Arts is once again celebrating the talent of local young photographers through the annual Young Photographer competition. Submissions are being accepted across three categories from photographers aged nine – 19. This year, there is no set theme for the competition, the college is encouraging entrants to be creative and welcomes all styles of photography: documentary, abstract, portraiture or conceptual to name a few! Entrants are also encouraged to keep an eye on the competition blog for hints, tips and inspiration.

Last year’s winners included Harry Myddleton, 17 who attended Malvern College, and won first place in Category 1 (age 16-19 years) with an image of a boy entering into a world of the unknown. Kiki Trueman, won first place in category 2 (11-16) and Gaia Vyas-Adams who triumphed in the 9-11 category – both from Moreton Hall School.

Competition and Exhibition Organiser, Lauren Vickery said, “The competition is great way for young individuals to be creative, imaginative and inventive! With no set theme this year, entrants are given the opportunity to really push the boundaries. We really enjoy seeing each and every entry and are always inspired by the talent that Herefordshire and its bordering counties have to offer. There are great prizes to be won, so why not have some fun and get involved? We can’t wait to see your entries!”

The deadline for entries is 5pm, March 1st, 2019. Entrants will have their work exhibited at HCA’s Folly Lane Campus from May 9th until May 24th.

Winners will be announced at an awards evening on Wednesday, May 8th and will receive cash prizes of up to £75.
