volunteers, groundsmen, match managers, captains, umpires, scorers and tea ladies all joined in to help make the week long celebration for the 175th anniversary of Ross Cricket Club a memorable one.
The celebrations began on Tuesday, July 24th when, after much gnashing of teeth about pitch preparation and ongoing struggles with waterlogged outfields etc, Ross-on-Wye Cricket Club hosted its first senior game in its cricket week to mark the Club's 175th anniversary.
The hot morning sun finally appeared for a glorious start to a perfect day for cricket and the declaration game was cricket played in the true spirit of the game.
The visitors, Gloucester Gypsies, batted first but after a good lunch Ross eased comfortably past the target to post 156 for 5 off 33 overs and win the match.
It was a great opening match for senior cricket and the club hopes to make this an annual fixture in future.
After tea, Ross' Invitational XI captain, James Tiffen presented Gloucester Gypsies Captain with a commemorative Ross 175 tie and mug.
After a glorious week of cricket the last match took place on Sunday, July 29th when Ross entertained Old Monmothians.
Despite a Ross defeat a post match barbeque was enjoyed by the players in the shadow of the 1887 pavilion.
