A couple from Ross are still celebrating their good fortune after scooping £114,939 by matching five numbers and the bonus ball in the National Lottery Draw on Saturday, February 20th. According to a lotto spokesman this is the first six figure sum to be have been won in this area
Liz Jenkins, 25, and Phillip Stephens, 40, bought their winning ticket on a whim. Liz, said: "We went to Morrisons to buy a bottle of wine, because we were staying in on Saturday evening, and out of the blue, I decided to buy two Lucky Dip tickets.
Liz told The Ross Gazette: "I do the lottery regularly through work but Phil and I never buy tickets ourselves, I had a couple of pounds cash on me and just thought we would try our luck.
"We went home and didn't think anything more of it, we didn't even watch the draw."
The next morning, Liz woke up early and decided to check the National Lottery results at http://www.national-lottery.co.uk">www.national-lottery.co.uk. She said: "At first I looked at the numbers and didn't realise I'd got the bonus ball, so I thought I'd won a smaller amount of money. I was really excited anyway, so I rang my mum. When she checked the numbers, she pointed out I had the bonus ball too, so I would have won a lot more.
She told the Ross Gazette: "I was so excited to think we had won £77 because I thought that would pay for us to have a nice night out. I did not know what to think when I realised it was so much more."
