The Ross Fatstock Sale took place at Ross-on-Wye Market on Monday, November 28th. The Champion Beast sold to a record price of 550 pence to gross £3,077. There were several other show cattle selling over 300 pence.
The Champion Beast is from the farm of Darrell and Sarah Cheacker at Pilning, near Bristol. She is a home-bred Limousin cross heifer about 20 months old. The judge was Wayne Randall of Abersychan.
The Champion lambs were brought to the market by Sam and Alfie of Kings Pitt Farm, which is run by SJ and EL Stables at Aconbury.
Alfie is four years old but dad, Sam, said he is already used to early mornings and loves helping with the shearing.
The lambs were judged by Matthew Barratt of Mayfield Livestock Ltd.
The Christmas Show and Sale saw another strong lamb trade with two pens selling to £100 and 244p/kg.
