Ross-on-Wye resident Shai Hardwick was one of the many pool players who took part in a special memorial charity tournament at TOP Q pool and snooker centre in Gloucester on Saturday, January 25th.

The tournament was held in memory of local pool player Mel Merret who sadly passed away on December 6th 2019, aged 70.

As part of the day’s activities to remember Mel, Shai was one of 64 players invited to play in the tournament, with the matches also being live streamed all day on social media.

After winning his first round match 4-0, Shai progressed to the last 32 of the competition where he eventually lost 4-3.

Shai said: “It’s obviously nice to go far in the competition and it would have been great to win, but ultimately this tournament is for Mel and everyone seemed to enjoy the day, which is the most important thing.”

Money raised at the tournament was sent to Teckles Animal Sanctuaries and Border in Whitminster, Gloucester. The eventual total raised came to a staggering £1,452 with the cheque presented to Teckles Animals Sanctuaries charity at 5pm on Tuesday, January 28th.
