In July, Charlotte Nock, from Quedgeley, near Gloucester, came to the Ross Gazette for a work experience placement, during which time, she wrote an article about her visit with her grandfather, to RAF Conningsby on July 4th.
In July, Charlotte, her Grandad and her Dad were given a VIP tour around RAF Conningsby, which meant a great deal to her 95-year-old grand father.
In her article for the Gazette, Charlotte wrote: “We had a chat to many of the people who fly the planes and a man named Stu Smiley spent a few minutes talking to us about many things. Because my Grandad was an electrician and worked on planes during WW2, this brought back many memories that he had long forgotten and made my Dad and I smile.”
She had added:“On the way home my Grandad had a smile on his face and couldn’t stop talking about his day. This is one of the moments I will always treasure, as it’s one where I saw my Grandad truly happy.”
Charlotte’s grandfather died on Thursday, November 10th. To honour him, Charlotte paraded his WW2 medals at the Jet Age Museum in Gloucester on Remembrance Sunday (November 13th) in her Explorer Scout uniform.
Charlotte’s grandfather had taken out his medals only a few days previously, as he had been invited to go along to the parade.
Helen Nock, Charlotte’s Mum, told the Gazette that her daughter had asked her to get in touch with the paper, to let us know how she was getting on, Helen said: “She is still writing blogs, and still enjoying her photography and writing.”
