The Ross Branch of the Royal British Legion held their third Annual Poppy Concert on Sunday, October 16th, and they were joined by Jean and Joan, two Chelsea Pensioners.
They accompanied the Standard Bearers and marched into the hall to the sound of the Legion March played by Ross Town Band. They were also entertained by ‘Annie’ a vintage style singer and were served lovely fresh cream cakes during the interval.
Jean, who also attended the Veteran’s Tea Party in July, presented a ‘Chelsea Bear’ to the Branch.
Some of the members of the Ross branch of the RBL joined Jean and Joan for breakfast on Monday morning and then Mary Sinclair Powell (Event’s co-ordinator) and Margaret Jones (Secretary) took them to visit the War Memorial in The Prospect and St Mary’s Church. After coffee Mr Graham Aplin (Chairman) took them to catch the train back to London. They both said they would love to return to Ross.
Margaret added that it had been a wonderful weekend for the branch and all who attended the Concert. Originally it had been planned to hold the Veteran’s Tea Party and Poppy Concert annually throughout the 100th Anniversary period but, due to lack of numbers it has been decided that these events will not take place in 2017. However, they will be held again in 2018 to mark the end of this historic period.
