Madam, I wonder if the people of Ross realise what a wonderful asset to our town is being lost with the closure of The Chestnuts? This well run and happy care home is about to be lost forever.

What will happen in the future to our most vulnerable elderly residents? They will be packed off around the county to places as far away as Leominster, Malvern, Ledbury and Hereford - away from the town and people they know and love.

Twenty years ago our community, under the leadership of Ray Smith, took responsibility for our own vulnerable elderly people with the formation of the charitable trust which has run The Chestnuts with the help of the most dedicated and caring staff, all of whom will now be unemployed.

I understand Hereford Council has to make cut backs to the tune of £10.3 million but why choose to focus on the most vulnerable members of our community?
