A LOCAL company has chosen its charity of the year with a 24-hour pool marathon.

Brockhampton-based company Squeegee has announced leading children’s charity Action for Children as their chosen charity of the year for 2022.

The team behind the scheduling and invoicing mobile app were deeply saddened by the recent news stories about Arthur Labinjo-Hughes and Star Hobson and they wanted to do something to make a difference to help prevent such awful treatment from being missed.

The Squeegee team kicked off their year of support with a 24-hour pool marathon from their offices in Herefordshire on Friday 28 January. So far, the team has raised £2,561 with all proceeds from the pool-a-thon will be donated to Action for Children to help make a difference to other children at risk of serious harm.

A spokesperson from Squeegee said: “Here at Squeegee, the team are all incredibly family focussed and after hearing the heart breaking stories that hit the UK news in late 2021 on Arthur Labinjo-Hughes and Star Hobson, we felt we had to do something. There are so many children out there needing support, care and love and we want to make a difference by raising as much money as possible for Action for Children to help prevent such awful treatment from being missed.

“While we could raise some awareness and support this wonderful charity individually, as a company with a reach of thousands of customers, we can make much more of a difference. We decided to begin with a 24-hour pool marathon, with all proceeds going to Action for Children.”

Lily Haig, regional fundraising manager at Action for Children, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Squeegee for choosing Action for Children as their chosen charity for 2022 and we are looking forward to working with them over the coming year. Their support will help us to give children across the UK a safe and happy childhood and the foundations they need to thrive.”
