Herefordshire NHS staff are invited to the first NHS Carol Service at Hereford Cathedral on Wednesday, December 6th at 7.30pm.

This will be a celebration of the NHS in our county, with a Christmas theme and music and readings relevant to work in the health service.

Dr Crispin Fisher (GP at The Marches Surgery, Leominster), who is organising the event on behalf of all NHS staff, past and present, said: “Here in Herefordshire, many local people work within and for the NHS in a myriad of roles. We want to gather people together to celebrate those roles and the work we undertake.

“We often work in difficult conditions, with financial and time constraints limiting what we would like to offer and achieve, but it is right to step back, take stock and reflect on the value of the work that we perform, as individuals, within our teams, and within the broad church that is NHS Herefordshire.

“The service will be one of celebration, with combined themes of healthcare and Christmas. It is open for anyone to attend so please do come along. If you work in the NHS, or have done so in the past, please bring friends and family and celebrate your great work together.”

The service itself will consist of readings that are all health related. They will include a published poem about dementia written and read by a fifth year medical student from Keele University who is currently undertaking a module in general practice in Herefordshire. The folk band ‘From Cradle to Grave’, comprised of a number of local medics, will be performing, as will a Hospital Choir.
