MADAM, Had you told me ten years ago that I would be spending two evenings a month dancing, I would have been most surprised. I have always regarded myself as having two left feet and no sense of rhythm.

However, on two Tuesday evenings a month, I go along to the Friends Meeting House in Brampton Street for a lovely evening of circle dancing. I was reluctantly persuaded to go along a few years ago, and now I am hooked.

Circle dancing is a different kind of dancing. It involves beautiful music and dances from around the world, and there are no partners – we dance in a circle. The movements vary from gentle swaying to livelier twisting and twirling. We have two teachers, and before each dance they show us the steps and help us remember them.

It is fun and entertaining, and on occasions we have live music provided by Ragamuffin, a band from the Forest of Dean.

We are sometimes a small group, and would welcome a bigger circle. I am therefore writing to ask if any of your readers might be interested in coming along to try it out for themselves. We meet for two hours at 7.30pm on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. There is a break for refreshments in the middle of the evening, and we pay £2.50 towards costs.

If you'd like to try circle dancing, just come along and we'll be pleased to meet you. Alternatively, call Andrea on 01989 563705 if you have any questions.
