The Mayor of Ross-on-Wye, Councillor Colin Gray, was joined by the pupils of St Joseph’s RC Primary School, several Town Councillors, and other local dignitaries, when the town took part in one of many global ceremonies, marking Commonwealth Day, on Monday, March 14th.
In the Mayor’s report in the full meeting of Ross Town Council later that evening, Cllr Gray said how pleased he was that the pupils of St Joseph’s had attended the service. He said he was also pleased that the weather had been so lovely.
The Flag was raised in Ross as one of more than 850 Commonwealth Flags which were raised in locations throughout the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories, and Commonwealth countries on Monday, March 14th.

The Mayor of Ross, Councillor Colin Gray read out a personal message from His Excellency Kamalesh Sharma, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, and a specially written Commonwealth Affirmation, when Ross joined in the ceremonies that marked Commonwealth Day.
The unique initiative, now in its third year, inspired thousands of participants to join with others throughout the Commonwealth. In a common act of witness, members of this great family of nations reaffirm the commitment to democracy, development and respect for diversity.
In Ross-on-Wye, the Mayor was joined by Councillors and officers of Ross Town Council, representatives of the Ross Branch of the Royal British Legion and the Armed Forces, the clergy and members of the public.
