Ross Town Council will be inviting local school children, to join them in marking Commonwealth Day.

On March 13th, at 9.45am they will once again be holding a short ceremony at the Market House and everyone is invited to join them and fly a flag for the Commonwealth.

The Town Council hope that a local youngster will read out the Commonwealth Affirmation, and the Mayor will then read out a message from Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, The Right Honourable Patricia Scotland QC. The Commonwealth Flag will be raised by the Ross branch of the Royal British Legion at 10am.

Last year local school children waved many different flags of countries of the Commonwealth. The Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth initiative, now in its third year, is again catching the imagination of thousands of participants from all walks of life, inspiring them to join with others throughout the Commonwealth. As a collective public expression of commitment to the Commonwealth, it enables participants to show appreciation for the values the Commonwealth upholds, and the opportunities offered for friendship and cooperation with fellow Commonwealth citizens, young and old, around the world.
