A local resident, and her Ross Town Councillor, Julian Gren, are concerned at the amount of flytipping that is occuring next to the Animal Friends charity shop in Brookend Street.
Cllr Gren told the Ross Gazette that it is disappointing and is not a good advertisement for the town. He said:?“People complain when the Travellers move into the car park and make a mess but this mess has probably been caused by local residents.”
The volunteer at Animals Friends, who did not wish to give her name, told the Ross Gazette:?“People probably think they can leave rubbish for collection here because it is near a litter bin. But when the Council staff empty the bin they do not take rubish which has been left around it.
“It is an eyesore and not something which visitors to the town should have to see.”
She said that she has complained to Herefordshire Council and they have sent contractors out to clear any rubbish away but, she added, that she would prefer it if the people who are dumping their rubbish, would stop.
She said:?“It is disrespectful to our shops and to the town. People should deal with their own litter properly.”
Cllr Gren added:?“Some people have complained about the lack of Christmas lights in the town, but if the council has to keep spending money on clearing up mess like this, it means there is less money to spend on nicer things.”
He said:?“So much has been done to improve this part of town and it is a shame that this flytipping is spoiling it.”
