Dear Editor

I was shocked to learn of the current owners’ plans to close The Chase Hotel for redevelopment.

I agree with the Mayor of Ross, Councillor Harry Bramer when he says that The Chase Hotel could “achieve the status of a leading destination hotel”.

Councillor Harry Bramer suggested that  the current owners could apply to the local planning authority for the erection of a Spa facility, ‘which would provide such facilities for hotel guests as well as residents of Ross and, if prepared sympathetically, rival others in other nearby towns.’

I also agree with Councillor Harry Bramer’s suggestion to increase the number of bedrooms. He said: “Some say that 36 bedrooms is not enough to make ends meet, since at peak times the revenue taken is not enough to offset the quieter times.

“I would also suggest to the owners that to apply for planning permission for a further 20 (incredibly well appointed) new bedrooms is something that the planners and the town would be delighted to see.”

There is so much concern by local residents about the possible closure of The Chase Hotel, and I certainly feel very strongly about this.

I hope that those who do have concerns voice their opinions and make them known to the Mayor, the planners and anyone who could possibly influence the decision,

Mrs Joyce Thomas
