Madam, I am writing to you regarding my concerns relating to the removal of resident wardens in sheltered accommodation within Herefordshire. The scheme is the responsibility of Herefordshire Housing. The alarm call system is based in Hereford and is only usable if the resident can pull the red cord or press the emergency button.
Residents who have not been seen by their neighbours or roused by telephoning or ringing their door bell cause concern because there is no one with access to thatperson's home. It has now become apparent that Herefordshire Housing employees have access to the key safe whilst residents do not have the code. Therefore the employees could have access to any homes with or without permission. So if any problem arises e.g. an occupant locks themselves out of their home, no one on site is able to get the master key in order to help.
Several residents have died in their homes and have not been found for several hours or days, even seven days, on one occasion. This is unsatisfactory for other residents and their families.
A concerned resident, name and address supplied.
