Will Probert, RG and RB Williams’ youngest auctioneer, has made the shortlist for Farmers Guardian’s New Auctioneer of the Year.

Will has been working with the Ross-on-Wye auction centre for more than a year now; he joined after graduating from Harper Adams University in 2015, and has gone on to become the principal auctioneer at RG?and RB?Williams.

Will told the Ross Gazette:?“I was surprised to have even got nominated, let alone made the shortlist of five out of 457 nominations.”

Typically, at RG and RB Williams Ross Auction Centre, Will’s weekly roles include selling all prime lambs, store cattle and calves, store and breeding sheep, as well as carrying out additional seasons sales such as farm dispersal, straw and collective machinery, when he is required to.

Will grew up on a family-run farm in Monmouthshire. He said that from a young age, he spent countless hours at livestock markets, and this was one of the major drives behind his desire to pursue a career as an auctioneer. He thrived off the ring side atmosphere, and he has now made his dream a reality.

Will told the Gazette that he loves nothing more than the early morning start on sale day, meeting and greeting vendors, buyers and clients.

Will’s passion for the auctioneering industry shines through, with a view that it’s not just a career choice, but very much a way of life. He continues to encourage the like-minded new auctioneers into the industry at every opportunity, despite the ongoing challenges experienced within the agricultural sector.
