ROSS Town Council resolved to get serious about traffic issues in Ross, at Monday night's full council meeting.

Two notices of motion, one to obtain speeding devices and one to look at 20mph zones, were passed unanimously by the Council.

During the meeting's public participation, Matthew Clark, a resident of Alton Street, put his case to the Councillors to do something about traffic safety issues.

He said: "It's not just one thing. It's vehicles speeding, the size of the vehicles passing, the condition of the road and the size of the pavements. Vehicles mount the pavements and it's the pedestrians who are giving way to motorists. It puts people heading towards the hospital in danger."

Mr Clark said that agricultural traffic in the summer was a particular problem.

The motion put forward by Cllr Andrew Atkinson saw the Council agree to consider purchasing or hiring speed indicator equipment, as well as lobbying the police for more enforcement and looking into the possibility of speed cameras.
