Black bin bags continue to be a common sight in Ross as sacks pile up in Quarry Close.

Numerous black bags full of rubbish, as well as items including a baby bath, a frying pan, used nappies, a chair, were all left in the street, ignored by the rubbish collectors. Many of the bags in the street have been torn open by cats and other animals.

Councillor Chris Bartrum removed a large amount of rubbish himself by taking the bags in his car to the local tip.

He told the Ross Gazette: "By the time I speak to Balfour [Beatty] it will take ages to get anything done."It's not fair on the people of Quarry Close. They pay their council tax and they're not having their bags taken."

The councillor was told that the residents didn't leave their bags in the designated area so it was considered fly-tipping and the bags weren't taken. If the residents of Quarry Close want a black bin then they have to ring the Council individually to request one.

The Ross West Councillor, who also runs an occasional voluntary litter picking session, had to pick slugs from the back seats, after putting rubbish from a recent litter pick in his car.

Chris told the Gazette: "There's a flood of rubbish here in Ross at the moment, but there are bound to be mess ups whilst people get used to the new system."Read the full story in this week's Ross Gazette.
