Potholes, and especially the condition of the Walford Road in Ross-on-Wye, were the subject of a meeting between Ross County Councillors, Councillor Phil Cutter, Councillor Richard Mayo and Councillor Jenny Hyde, and Balfour Beatty, last week.
Cllr Cutter told the meeting of Ross Town Council on Monday, April 11th that the meeting with Ian Williams, and other representatives of Balfour Beatty, had been very productive. He said that the Councillors had spoken about several issues of concern in Ross, including potholes and litter.
The main reason for the meeting was to press for the resurfacing of Walford Road. Cllr Cutter said: “It needs to be done, Balfour Beatty have said it is the responsibility of the former contractors, but that is not a problem for us, we, as Ross Councillors, have to keep pressing the County Council to do something, it is the main artery into the town.”
He added that it was of concern to all three Councillors as Walford Road roughly splits his area with Cllr Mayo, and Cllr Hyde lives there.
Cllr Ravenscroft told the members that a drain which had been cut and blocked also needed attention. Cllr Cutter said it was all part of the work they are hoping to get completed. He said: “It was a very productive meeting now we are just awaiting the results.”
Cllr Cutter also confirmed that work is about to start at the Rosswyn development but no road closures have been included in the planning application, so he said there should be no further traffic disruption in this area.
Cllr Hyde told the meeting that she had been in discussion with Balfour Beatty about a traffic order for the top of Ledbury Road. She said: “Selfish parkers are blocking the bus stop at certain times of the day.” This means that the Runaround bus cannot pick up or set down passengers at the bus stop. She is hoping that a single yellow line can be added to the road past the bus stop to work with the sign opposite which states no parking between 3pm and 4.30pm.
Cllr Hyde also reported that a long term plan to turn an open space at Willowbrook in Greytree into a village green could not be achieved. She had arranged for a planning inspector to consider it and as it is private property it cannot be done.
