The Courtyard will play host to a very special screening of The Adventures of Prince Achmed (PG) this April.
Lotte Reiniger’s beautiful 1926 silhouette animation, The Adventures of Prince Achmed, brings to life magical tales from the Arabian Nights and is the earliest surviving animated feature film, which is preserved in the BFI National Archive.
Three years in production and made in card cut entirely by hand, Reiniger’s exquisite shadow characters move intricately through colourful worlds of demons, witches, beautiful princesses and flying castles and it has been hailed as one of the world’s most innovative and influential animations.
Alongside the screening of the family friendly film, musician Chris Davies will perform live music using a huge variety of instruments including classical guitar, oud, darbuka, gong rack and djembe amongst many more. Chris was commissioned by the National Media Museum to compose the score, which was originally performed live for the opening night of the Bradford Animation Festival 2014.
The Adventures of Prince Achmed will take place in The Courtyard on Wednesday, April 11th at 6pm. To book tickets, or for more information contact the Box Office on 01432 340555 or visit www.courtyard.org.uk.
