A crowdfunding page has been set up to raise funds for the Ropewalk Playground Project, which is aiming to turn a small, dated play park in Ross-on-Wye into a destination playground, which will bring people to the town.

The Ropewalk Playground Project was first started in 2013 by four parents who live in Ross-on-Wye, who wanted to do something to improve the old, dilapidated play area on the Ropewalk that they say is “not fit for purpose.”

The existing play area was installed in 1994 by Herefordshire Council, but a lack of maintenance and funding resulted in its gradual deterioration.

Last year, Ross Town Council took on the responsibility for The Ropewalk from Herefordshire Council, and the four parents behind the Playground Project are hoping to make faster progress; the Town Council have pledged to contribute £10,000.

The plan for the play area is split into three phases. Each phase is currently planned to cost £50,000.

The first phase is to replace the fenced toddler area with a new safety surface and new play equipment that appeals to toddlers and small children.

It is also important that the park is equally accessible to disabled and able bodied children.

The parents behind the project are applying for funding from various organisations, but they hope to raise £10,000 though the Crowdfunding page. If you would like to donate to the appeal, please visit: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/Ropewalkplaygroundproject
