Dear Editor,

This memorial cross is on the river bank just beyond Backney Bridge near the bend in the river opposite Backney Common, not far north west of Ross-on-Wye.

I have walked past it many times and always been curious about the history behind it.

I just wondered if a reader or local historian could enlighten me please?
