Old Hill entertained Ross-on-Wye 2nd XI on Saturday in a rain affected game at Old Halesonians. Ross won the toss and elected to bowl first. Old Hill openers Khan and Baig made a watchful start, before Khan fell to the wily off-spin of Michael Jeffryes. Foster soon departed for 29 before a smart piece of fielding from David Tookey saw Baig dismissed for a well made 64. The Ross bowling attack of Donaldson, Jeffryes and Tookey continued to take wickets at regular intervals which saw the Old Hill innings meander to 215 for 8 off 45 overs. Donaldson, Jeffryes and Tookey all taking two wickets apiece.
The Ross innings started falteringly with the loss of three early wickets. A fine captain's innings from Stuart Tucker brought Ross back into the game. But he too departed for 61 after being caught in the gully by Daniels, who leapt like a salmon to take a mesmeric catch. Dee Springer (23) weighted in with some lusty blows in the middle order but this was in vain as Ross were bowled out for 148 in 35 overs.
They do however remain third in the league and are still looking like strong title contenders.
