PARENTS in Ross are being urged to talk to their children about the dangers of throwing objects at vehicles on the A40. What may seem to be a harmless prank can lead to injury or worse, death. Two recent incidents from the bridge at the top of Brampton Road, which passes over the A40, has compelled Ross Police to issue a warning.

On April 15th police received a report that a wheelie bin was thrown from the bridge and on the same day two stones thrown from the bridge smashed the windscreen of an oncoming car. Fortunately on this occasion no one was hurt.

"Throwing objects at vehicles is highly dangerous and could easily end in tragedy," warned CSO Paul Cowmeadow of Ross Police Station. "An object such as a stone or brick could smash a windscreen and cause severe head injuries to the driver or passengers. There is also the risk that it could cause the driver to swerve in avoidance or lose control, which could result in multiple injuries. Police take such actions extremely seriously."

The police are now urging all parents in Ross to talk to their children and reinforce the dangers of throwing objects from bridges. It is essential that this extremely dangerous, and potentially fatal, practice stops and all parents can play their part in making sure it does.
