A man from Ross, who had a lucky escape after being struck by a vehicle while he was standing on a path in Alton Street, has urged Town Councillors to get on with addressing traffic problems in the town.Mike Johnson wrote to the Ross Gazette in November calling for a weight limit to be put on Alton Street in order to stop agricultural vehicles and lorries using the road.

Mike said: "I was stood on the path when a lorry turning into Chase Road struck me, throwing me through a hedge. If the hedge had been a wall I would have been crushed. Putting speed limits on some roads would be well worth a few extra minutes on someone's journey in exchange for a person's life."

On Monday, Mike met with Councillors Andrew Atkinson and Craig Morgan to re-iterate his concerns.

Cllr Atkinson said: "Alton Street is a very complex issue. I've also been told that lorries use that route around town to avoid the VOSA check point on the A40. We need to come up with a solution that has no knock on effect on another part of the town."

Cllr Dr Jane Roberts, the Chairman of Ross Town Council's Planning and Sustainable Development Committee, has been looking at ways of building support for new traffic regulations in the town.

Cllr Roberts said: "An article in the Council's Autumn newsletter on traffic issues received a small response. We need to move things forward but don't wish to propose anything inappropriate. The Planning Committee has agreed to produce a leaflet which Mr Johnson, and others who have an interest, can engage with in order to gain support for 20 mph zones. These are scheduled for the new year."
