Local residents were celebrating this week when they discovered that a date has been confirmed for work to start to improve the safety of the A49 at Bridstow.

Councillor Hamilton told the Ross Gazette that he had received a letter on Friday confirming that work would start on the week commencing December 19th, weather permitting. The work had been scheduled to start in March but had been put on hold for financial reasons. Letters will be sent to residents this week, advising them of the work, road closures, diversion routes and the start and completion dates.

The work will include improvements to signage, road markings and surfaces as well as reducing the speed limit in Bridstow village and installing a crossing point.

Campaigners have been working on these improvements for many years, MP Paul Keetch and MP Jesse Norman have added their weight to the campaign, as have many parish and county councillors. Councillor Jenny Hyde said:?"I am delighted at this news which has been a long time coming. I have to congratulate Councillor Hamilton for his determination to see the scheme in place. This renewed enthusiasm finally has brought it to this point."
