Dave Harwood made the best of the blustery conditions last week at the last Old Gore race of the year taking his first win of the season two minutes ahead of second placed Adam Spector who just did enough on the finishing climb to push Paul Stephens in to third position.
Mike Druce, racing strategically, has mastered the ability this summer to always finish fast, looking at his best as he crosses the line, which he did in seventh position ahead of first placed veteran finisher Gerald Brain. Mary Middleton, showing signs of returning to her best following the recent intense spell of training she has undertaken, positively flew up the final climb posting a time just off her season's best and looking like a strong contender for a podium place in this week's Walford event.
The final race of the Ross Cycling Club time trial league series take place this Thursday evening. The event on the Walford/Lydbrook course starting at 7pm offers the opportunity for any rider to win the event as it will be time handicapped to take in to consideration all riders' previous times posted this season.
The race handicap committee works tirelessly during the week ahead of the event with complex statistical modelling ensuring precision to within a second to place everyone on an assumed equal time finish calculation. With a club prize for the winner on offer a large field is anticipated as even the slowest rider of the season has a chance to take the win based on over achieving on the evening.
