A blood donor from Ross-on-Wye has been honoured for his dedication in rolling up his sleeves to help save lives at a recent awards ceremony held by the National Blood Service.
The awards lunch is a way of recognising the commitment that long serving blood donors give to saving the lives of others. Each blood donation can potentially save the lives of up to three people so if a donor has given 75 blood donations they have potentially helped save the lives of up to 225 patients in local hospitals through donating blood.
David Bryant received a crystal plate for giving an amazing 75 donations.
When asked what prompted him to start donating, the 62 year-old sales assistant said; "I saw it advertised and three of us at work said we would go along and donate. I believe it's a good thing to help others and I enjoy it."
The award ceremony took place at the Chateau Impney Hotel in Droitwich Spa. They were presented by Heather Brooke from Alcester who needed three litres of blood following an emergency operation.
Pam Prescott, Communications Officer for the National Blood Service said; "All our donors are special, but it is a pleasure to thank our dedicated donors in this way. They continue to make time to donate come rain or shine and really are the lifeblood of our service"
Anyone aged over 17, weighing more than 50 kg and in general good health could potentially start saving lives by becoming a blood donor.
