Margaret Jones, a stalwart of the Ross-on-Wye and District branch of the Royal British Legion and friend to many people, not just in Ross, through her tireless work for the RBL, died at St Michael’s Hospice on Tuesday evening. She had been suffering from ill health for some time but was quietly determined to see out the anniversary year marking the end of World War I.

While she was in Hereford Hospital, before her move to St Michael’s Hospice, Margaret asked for a letter to be published in the Ross Gazette, which is published in this week’s paper.

The letter is typical of Margaret as it thanks all her friends and comrades at the Royal British Legion and all the people of Ross on-Wye. She said: “Your support and good wishes have been marvellous and meant a lot.”

And she urged everyone to remember that ‘every day is special’.

Margaret has been a great friend to the Ross Gazette for many years and the team all send their condolences to her family.
