A Parish Councillor from Brampton Abbotts and Foy was so concerned about the condition of some of the roads in the area that he feared motorists would have to stop using them.
However as we went to press on Tuesday afternoon he contacted the Gazette to tell us that the potholes had just been repaired.
Parish Councillor John Sherahilo told the Ross Gazette that Gatsford Lane and Ross Road had some very deep pot holes and cars had to zig zag across the roads to avoid these dangers. He told the Ross Gazette that the litany of problems had been reported to Herefordshire Council and he was still waiting for something to be done. Thankfully on Tuesday it was.Potholes were also discussed at Ross Town Council meeting on Monday, January 14th. Councillor Andrew Atkinson reported that potholes are an issue many residents are concerned about. He said he wanted to reassure people that Amey is working hard to deal with the problems. He said there are teams working non-stop to deal with the problems caused by flooding and the bad weather since. He said the Council also has every sub-contractor available working on potholes across the county.
He added that many people had remarked that the work would not be effective as the holes are being filled by cold tar. He said this is because every hot box is already being used.
He said the repairs may not be as long lasting but it is better to be done.
Councillor Phil Cutter added that he agreed with the need to fill potholes but people should remember there are other demands on budgets and the priority should be people.
John Maddy, principle operations manager for Amey, said maintenance teams are working hard carry out necessary repairs: "The unprecedented wet weather and flooding in the region has meant we are now seeing a high volume of defects appearing on the road network.
"Our teams are working hard to carry out repairs on Herefordshire's roads and we have additional patrol teams inspecting the highways to identify and prioritise the worst hit areas. However we would encourage residents to continue to report any potholes so we can arrange to repair them as soon as possible to make sure highways are safe."
Forecasters are warning that there is to be a drop in temperatures, something that could cause further damage to the county's roads. Residents are being asked to report any defeats to Herefordshire Council by calling 01432 261800 or emailing [email protected]">[email protected]
