The delays to the siting of the Falklands Memorial Bench in Ross Market Place are due to maintenance work being needed at the Market House.
The Mayor of Ross, Councillor Nigel Gibbs told residents at the annual Town Meeting on Monday, April 30th that due to scaffolding being placed at the Market House the siting of the bench had been delayed.
Margaret Jones, Secretary of the Ross branch of the Royal British Legion asked if the Council knew when the bench would be put in place. She said that since the special service of dedication she had received numerous telephone calls asking where the bench is. She said there is a bench dedicated to Gordon and Margaret Lucas on one side and the Falklands bench should be placed on the left hand side of the step if you are looking up at the Market House.
She added, we know we cannot completely ensure it is safe but we want it to be somewhere there is CCTV.
Cllr Gibbs explained that due to having to place scaffolding in the position where the bench is to go is delaying things. He added that there is also the pigeon problem.
He said the first phase of work is going out to tender and the bench will be placed in its final position as soon as possible.
