Madam, Without wishing to prolong this debate I feel I must write to correct some inaccuracies in the letter from Patrick Hughes, Gazette letters March 31st.
The co-option to which he refers was caused by the death of Conservative Councillor Peggy Fisher in 2005. A co-option took place at which Mr Hughes was himself a candidate. The Conservative group withdrew from the vote as their chosen candidate, David Ravenscroft, was a fellow member of the Conservative party and a personal friend, so there could have been a perceived conflict of interest. The chosen candidate was Paul Trueman, a Liberal Democrat.
Furthermore this forthcoming election was called by ten electors in Ross West as is their democratic right.
Councillor Jenny Hyde, Bridstow
